SQUADRON SONG

A number of member have asked about a song that they had sung or heard while serving with the squadron's in Viet Nam. I placed a message on the site message board and within hours one of the blokes, Willy, said he had the word's for the song, which he had written down while in Viet Nam and kept.

So here are the lyrics as sung by Ike Robin and Jimmy Canuto to the tune of "The Breen Beret".......

                Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who drive and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Black Beret

                Chorus:
                Silver buttons upon their chest
                These are men, Australia's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Black Beret

Trained to live off natures land
                Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who drive by night and day
Courage peak from the Black Berets

                Chorus:
                Silver buttons upon their chest
                These are men, Australia's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Black Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Black Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
                Leaving her his last request
“Put silver buttons on my son’s chest
Make him one of Australia’s best
He’ll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Black Beret”

                Chorus:
                Silver buttons upon their chest
                These are men, Australia's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Black Beret
